Bored...What Can I Do?

My mom has a file box filled with oodles of fun activities for young children. I often look through this file to find fun science or art projects for my first graders. Finally, I typed up each idea and put it into a handy, on-the-go book. I made extra books for some friends. I enjoyed reading each idea and adding a few of my own that I do at school with my students.

Hand-Pieced Stars

This was my first attempt at hand-piecing a quilt. I wanted to start with something small and I have always loved this star pattern. The hand piecing was incredibly relaxing. It would be perfect to take on a road trip or to the doctor's office.

Flower Design Quilt

I love the happy fabrics of this quilt! I hand embroidered the designs - which was my favorite part of this project. The flower designs are simple and they complement the bright fabric nicely.

Spring Heart Quilt

This quilt is a mixture of four patch, nine patch, and a heart block that is simply sewn together using rectangles and triangles. I hand quilted a heart of various sizes into each block. I enjoy the slow process of hand quilting that brings on sweet relaxation.

There is Sunshine in My Soul Today

This is one of my favorite hymns. I love how bright and cheery it makes me feel. I had an awful lot of fun working on this project. The sun is appliqued and the words are embroidered. The buttons are my favorite part! Buttons can make anything change from ordinary to extraordinary! Now all it needs is a black frame and an empty wall.

What Do Snowmen Do At Night?

I adore the children's book "What Do Snowmen Do At Night?" by Mark and Carolyn Buehnor, two local author and artist duo. This punch needle reminds me of that magical story. I painted the frame with a dark blue and used the end of my paintbrush to create the white "snowflakes".

Home Sweet Home

I designed this home for a larger quilt that my mom made for my wedding. I love the oversized tulips and stars and the white scallop on the house. For me, this house represents a new beginning filled with joy and happiness. I have loved the home that my husband and I have built. This was by far the largest punch needle project I have ever attempted. It barely fits in my largest punch needle hoop. I devoured floss, but I loved the way it turned out. I used to different colors of green for the grass. I like the verigated feel it gives.
